Marcus Bluhm

Marcus Bluhm studied acting at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Hamburg. In 1988, Hans Neuenfels engaged him at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin. This was followed by an engagement at the Hamburg Schauspielhaus, where he appeared among others as Romeo in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

In 1992, under the direction of Hans Neuenfels, he played Count von Strahl in Kleist’s Das Käthchen von Heilbronn at the Burgtheater Vienna, after which Claus Peymann engaged him as a permanent member of the company for the remaining seven years of his tenure.

Since 1999, Marcus Bluhm has worked as a freelance actor, performing at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (Switzerland), the Burgtheater Vienna, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, the Residenztheater Munich, the St. Pauli Theater in Hamburg, and many others. His roles have included the title part in Mephisto after Klaus Mann, as well as appearances in Kabale und Liebe, Don Carlos, Noises Off, and in 2023 as Estragon in Waiting for Godot at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna.

In 2013, he received the Rolf Mares Prize for his portrayal of George VI in The King’s Speech at the St. Pauli Theater.

At the Vienna State Opera, Marcus Bluhm makes his debut this season as Bassa Selim in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
