The German character tenor Michael Gniffke specializes in German character roles and contemporary repertoire, including the Cavalier (Cardillac), the Captain (Wozzeck), the Witch (Hansel and Gretel), Loge and Mime (Ring des Nibelungen), the tenor part in Detlev Glanert's Drei Wasserspiele, and Aegisth (Elektra). Recent engagements include Snowball (Animal Farm) in Amsterdam (world premiere) and Helsinki, Oedipus rex at the Prague National Theater, and Christobald (Irrelohe) at the Opéra national de Lyon.
