The French-Canadian bass-baritone Philippe Sly is a prizewinner of the Concours Musical International de Montréal (Canada) as well as a grand prize winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (USA). He also participated in the prestigious Adler Fellowship Program at the San Francisco Opera (USA), where he made his debut as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte).

Most recently, he has performed Russell (The Exterminating Angel) and Nilakantha (Lakmé) at the Zurich Opera House (Switzerland), Cadmus/Somnus (Semele) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (Germany), the title role in Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Québec (Canada), Guglielmo and Leporello (Don Giovanni) at the Paris Opera (France), Escamillo (Carmen) in Lausanne (Switzerland), and Count Karl Gustav in Julien Bilodeau’s La Reine-garçon at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto (Canada).

At the Vienna State Opera, he made his debut in 2021 as Figaro and has since appeared as Leporello in the new production of Don Giovanni as well as Hamm in the company premiere of Fin de partie.

He is also in great demand on the concert stage worldwide. In the coming weeks, he can be heard as Leporello at the Vienna State Opera and with the Cleveland Orchestra (USA) in Handel’s Messiah.
